Option to add in a pound of cooked ground turkey or beef. While marinara is cooking, place a large frying pan over medium-high heat and cook ground turkey/beef in pan and cook until meat is cooked through. Drain fat then add meat to marinara sauce. Let cook for an additional 10-15 minutes.
For a vegan option, add in a cup of crumbled tempeh or a cup of lentils into the sauce and let cook for the last 15 minutes. Or for a creamier sauce, stir in half a cup of hummus to the sauce in the last 5 minutes of cooking time.
Freeze left over sauce or serve leftovers over a bun as sloppy joe’s or on pita bread for pita bread pizzas.
